INTERNSHIPS AND FELLOWSHIPS

The David Berg Center for Law and Aging, a program of the Weinberg Center, provides substantive learning opportunities for lawyers and law students at every stage of their careers. Focused on issues of elder abuse, elder law, and elder rights, our internships and fellowships help pave the way for a future of advocacy on behalf of older adults.

WEINBERG CENTER LEGAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Each year, we choose exceptional law students to serve as summer or academic year interns. These individuals work at the Weinberg Center under the direct supervision of our General Counsel and as part of the Weinberg Center team. The goal of our internship program is to provide many practical opportunities to deepen students’ understanding of legal issues confronting the older adult population.

BROOKLYN LAW SCHOOL AND DAVID BERG FOUNDATION LAW AND AGING FELLOWSHIP

We encourage recent graduates of Brooklyn Law School to apply for our annual post-graduate fellowship position. This fellowship gives participants an opportunity to work on elder law projects at the Weinberg Center in a variety of legal areas, based on current client needs. Fellows work in a variety of practice areas, based on client needs, which can include litigation, negotiation, advocacy, client contact, appearances in family and housing courts, and Medicaid fair hearings. The fellows also work on long-term development projects geared towards increasing awareness and education around issues of elder abuse in the New York legal community. Stipend funds are provided via a partnership between the David Berg Center and Brooklyn Law School.

DAVID BERG PRO-BONO ATTORNEY PROGRAM

We offer an opportunity for attorneys or law school graduates awaiting admission to the bar to work on a variety of projects that serve and advocate for clients of the Weinberg Center. Previous participants have completed legal and investigative research pursuant to drafting court papers and legal memoranda, prepared articles about legal innovations in the field, created educational training materials for legal and non-legal audiences, and participated in interdisciplinary task forces and advocacy groups.
