THE WEINBERG CENTER SHELTER
The Weinberg Center at the Hebrew Home at Riverdale—the nation’s first temporary elder abuse shelter—provides safe, short-term shelter.
Each year, one in ten people over the age of 60 are abused, neglected, or financially exploited. Ranging from physical, emotional, and sexual abuse to neglect and abandonment, elder abuse can happen to anyone, anywhere, and does not go away on its own.
The Weinberg Center Shelter offers those who have experienced abuse a safe, comfortable space to regain their dignity, re-assert control, and develop the resilience they need to return to the community
Shelter, in our vision
Shelter, in our vision, is more than a space. It is a holistic, trauma-informed model of care that provides high-intensity legal, therapeutic and medical support in a framework of relationship between the client and our supportive, multidisciplinary team.
